Ketchikan Alaska! I had a wonderful time here during my 10 Day Alaska Cruise on the NCL Joy. In the morning, I joined an excursion to hike in the Tongass National Forest.

The Tongass is the nation’s largest national forest covering 16.7 million acres! Most of it is a temperate rain forest so expect temps to remain pretty consistent and of course rain. The trailhead was about a 20 minute van ride from the cruise port in Ward Cove. Our guide was wonderful and full of knowledge, stopping along the way to tell us about the different plants and in between tell us stories about growing up in Ketchikan. The views of the forest were amazing. After the hike, we drove back towards the Port to Salmon Falls to enjoy an Alaskan beer.

Then in the afternoon, I joined the Ketchikan Pub Crawl! We visited 3 bars to enjoy a local adult beverage while hearing stories about Ketchikan’s past. It was a great time. Our guide was fun and kept us very entertained. One such nugget he shared was about this photo. Here drivers and pedestrians have the option to drive around, over, or through the mountain! The tunnel was the final piece of the trio. Our tour chose to go through the mountain.
